Council selects new City Manager
The Bend City Council had offered the City Manager position to Eric King, who has been serving as Interim City Manager since November 2007.  The announcement comes after two days of selection activities involving four finalists previously selected by the Council.  A nationwide search was conducted by The Waters Consulting Group, Inc. and more than 70 candidates applied for the position.

“We had a remarkably talented group of candidates and the selection process was incredibly thorough with outstanding citizen participation,” said Mayor Bruce Abernethy.  “Eric clearly rose to the top, and given the very positive changes to the city in the last six months, that should be of no surprise.”

“I’m truly excited for the opportunity to continue as City Manager, and see this as a great step in providing stability to the organization,” said King.  “I look forward to creating a solid management team that can continue the important work on our five goals of financial stability, the Urban Growth Boundary, the Juniper Ridge project and community relations.”

King came to Bend as Assistant City Manager in April 2007 from the City of Portland, where he spent nearly 10 years. He has a Masters Degree in Urban and Regional Planning and a Graduate Certificate in Real Estate Development from Portland State University.
