Bend 2030 Seeking Candidates to Serve on Board of New Non-Profit
Bend 2030 Implementation Will Be Overseen
By Unique Public/Private Partnership
(Dec. 7, 2006) – Bend 2030 is currently seeking people to serve on the board of a new non-profit organization designed to be a public/private partnership that will oversee Phase III of the Bend 2030 Visioning process – Implementation.
“This is a great milestone,” said Linda Johnson, chair of the Bend 2030 Project Management Team and a Bend City Council member. “We’ve been working for almost two years to get to this point. The Bend 2030 Board will lead the community into the next stage, and it’s a really exciting opportunity.”
More information about board expectations and responsibilities is available on www.bend2030.org. Applications are due no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006. The Bend 2030 Project Management Team will review applications and hold interviews in January, and it is expected the board will be in place in late January.
“One of the unique things about getting involved with the new Bend 2030 non-profit agency at this stage is the opportunity to help design the organization for the long-term,” according to Johnson. “For the first few months, Board members will be engaged in setting policies and practices designed to support the Lead Partners in their efforts to implement the Vision Action Plans. Over the long-term, we expect them to be champions of Bend 2030, actively engaged in supporting Bend 2030 initiatives, and enthusiastically promoting projects and progress to the community.”
It is anticipated that the Bend 2030 Board will offer between 14 and 20 positions, of which at least three positions will be held by level staff from the City of Bend and a city councilor. Another six to 12 seats are intended for people who have participated in the Bend 2030 process in the past as a Vision Task Force Member, a Stakeholder, on the Project Management Team, or as a participant on the Action Teams.
“This is very important as these people will likely represent many Lead Partners and will be aligned with specific Vision focus areas,” explained Lori Gleichman, Bend 2030 project coordinator. “They also have a lot of institutional knowledge about the processes we’ve gone through so far, which will be important to preserving the integrity of the vision and the discussions that went into the action plans.”
Another five seats on the board have been reserved for members of the community at large, said Gleichman. “We are also recruiting people with specific skills like fundraising, developing non-profit policy and governance, non-profit finance, marketing and experience planning special events. It’s a great opportunity for new people to get involved with Bend 2030.”
“Most importantly, we’re looking for people who can continue the very creative and collaborate process of Bend 2030,” said Johnson. “This has been a remarkable experience so far, and the people who volunteer for this board will have the enviable task of building on a great foundation of community support and enthusiasm. But, it’s a lot of responsibility too. People in Bend care passionately about their community’s future, and want to be sure its dreams and aspirations are accomplished.”
Specifically, members of the Bend 2030 Board will:
- Shape the Bend 2030 public/private partnership, and provide leadership to the organization;
- Be charged with providing ongoing support to Bend 2030 Lead Partners and initiatives, and for presenting Bend 2030 progress to our community;
- Work collaboratively with staff assigned by the City of Bend;
